Trident Maple Bonsai Tree

A nice example of a formal upright Trident Maple Bonsai Tree imported from Japan. This tree is doing well and the root structure is coming along nicely. The nebari is a bit covered  with moss and we will re expose this when the tree is next re-potted.
Formal upright trees are always popular and a great addition to any bonsai collection.
Acer bonsai are quite easy bonsai trees to look after so long as they are watered daily during the growing season and fed every 2-3 weeks during the growing season.
Acer bonsai will do well in full sun but prefer some shade from the mid summer midday heat.
We have a selection of trees for sales and trees like the one featured in the above video have been imported from Japan and hand picked.
The pot is well suited to the tree and the overall scale of the tree is very good. Trident Maples are popular bonsai trees because the leaves are quite small and allow a good visual balance of scale. We pinch to every 1 or 2 pairs of leaves depending on the health of the tree and the overall appearance. This tree gets good light to all of the leaves unlike some other compact dense leaf bonsai designs. The tree looks good from most viewing angles and will make a good addition to someones bonsai collection.

Making a bonsai collection is not as straight forward as you may think if you are trying to show them well in your garden sometimes less is more. Having 20 or so low quality trees lying around can start to look messy and makes displaying them quite difficult. We prefer to have a few high quality trees in a garden and think displaying them on stone plinths works very well. The plinths will blend into the garden after a few years of aging and they just add that little something extra to the tree and give a nice visual wow factor. Wooden stands are very popular for displaying bonsai trees but again when you start to accumulate a small army of trees, they can look messy. The art of Japanese gardens is all about peace and tranquility and sometimes less is more ie 3 or 4 good quality trees will look better than 20 low quality trees. Bonsai collectors sometimes can't help themselves and keep buying more and more trees, and we have met many of these. It's all good fun and a joy to meet fellow bonsai enthusiasts.

Here is a picture of an Azalea bonsai tree on a stone plinth. The plinths give a good viewing height and are high quality which makes sense given the Azalea Bonsai tree is also high quality. Everyone has a personal preference when it comes to display stands, but some of the most stunning gardens we have seen in the UK make good use of stone plinths when displaying their trees and it really helps to give the garden a wow factor. Because the plinths are a striking white they immediately draw the eye to them, and then the tree sitting on top of them. Wooden stands sometimes get a bit lost in mature country gardens. Just our opinion and everyone is different. We do stock these stone plinths if you are interested but we do not deliver them due to the weight of them (about 60 KG).
